{baby sprinkle} inspiration

When a second baby is on the way, do you have another baby shower? The big shower has come and gone, the presents have been given, opened, used, and are being dug out of storage for baby number two. But doesn’t having a baby “sprinkle” sound like fun? I think so.

My dear sister-in-law, who is in essence just a straight-up sister without the “in-law” part, is pregnant with her second bundle of joy and we are celebrating. Here is what I am thinking…

streamer garland – so cute and so simple.

sprinkle invite – will definitely be playing with the dual meaning of sprinkle. Cute and delicious.

lemonade bar – yummy non-alcoholic beverages are a must when the guest of honor is prego.

sprinkle balloons – I’m putting paper dots everywhere, including inside some clear balloons.

cake banner – I’m making a custom banner for this shindig and I think I want to stick it in doughnuts…

Can’t wait to get going and see what this inspiration will yield. Sprinkle me!

365 Grateful #2

My 365 grateful project has been valuable and challenging. I find myself having to make a serious effort some days to commit and those are often the days where reflecting on what I am grateful for is most advantageous. I’m lucky to have the partner I have, who asks me what moment I captured. It is a gentle reminder that I need and want to take the time and spend the energy on gratitude.

May 5, 2014: Nothing better than a little naked baby time while folding laundry. Grayson is just itching to crawl, he pops up to his knees and pushes himself around the floor. Any day now. He is no longer content to lay on his back, he holds his head off the ground and grunts, trying to make himself upright. He is growing up so fast.

{dear grayson} you are 5 months old

Monthly baby photo idea - Month 5 Dear baby boy,

Smiles and laughter have filled this month. I love it. You started the month rolling from your back to your tummy. Now you flip back and forth and shuffle along the floor. You are so ticklish, your knees and your neck and your belly.

You had your first full fledged conversation with Shea. We hiked along the coast, you strapped to my chest and Shea strapped to Kristen. You turned to her, laughed, and started talking. The two of you took turns, listening and squawking. It was the first time you seemed to really notice each other.

You grab your toes and sleep on your tummy. You are such a big boy. Peach fuzz is coming in on the top of your head, with long strands sticking out beyond the others.

Peek-a-boo is your new favorite game. You are so patient. I love you.

May 1, 2014: This boy is laughing. Such a sweet sound. One way to getting him rolling is by playing Peek-a-boo, a game he is finally able to appreciate. I am so impressed by his joyful spirit, it inspires me.

{terrarium party} the recap

Party Ideas - Terrarium-Making-Party We had a blast. What better way to spend an afternoon than chatting with friends, eating delicious food, and digging in dirt. Of all the party ideas, I am so glad that Ari and I made this one come to life. The table was covered in brown paper and set with all the materials required to make the coolest terrariums around: tons of succulents, stones, dirt, charcoal, and of course gold dinosaurs and polymer mushrooms.

Party Ideas - Terrarium Party Place Setting At each work station this hand-illustrated direction sheet awaited our guests, adhered to the brown paper table with washi tape. Scoops stuck out of the different jars and pails. Chopsticks, a terrarium-maker’s best friend, laid waiting.

The yard looked beautiful with hand-sewn cushions resting on benches and bright orange California poppies in full bloom. The chickens were milling about and greeted guests as they arrived.

The food was amazing. I, per the ushe, was running behind on my menu. My mom-in-law swept in for the save. She arrived early, rolled up her sleeves, and started putting together sandwiches and cutting vegetables.

I added a little spread of fig jam to these prosciutto and brie sandwiches. My favorite recipes for parties can be easily modified to accomodate the needs of guests. In this case I served some sandwiches sans prosciutto, for my vegetarian guests, as well as providing a platter of the fixin’s with gluten free crackers. No additional baking, very few additional groceries, and guests get to feel like they are sharing the same meal.

Bar This cocktail is being added to my list of favorites. Subtle, refreshing, and scarily easy to drink. I had a pitcher of the cocktail next to a loaded ice bucket, and the bourbon out as a warning. The olive oil cake rocked my world. It was moist and filled with incredible citrus flavor. Not to mention it was served with whipped crème fraîche. Delish. You can find link to all the recipes here.

Olive-Oil-Cake And then of course everyone got to take their terrarium home. There was something special about getting to talk while having my hands busy being creative. Looking at what each person came up with was half the fun.

April 25, 2014: This week marked Grayson’s first swim lesson. Taking these classes is just as much for me as it is for him. I was born a water bug and it looks like Grayson is following suit. He is barely old enough to be in the class, littlest guy in the pool. The water captivated him; he laughed and smiled and stared. He floated on his back, ears in the water, head on my shoulder, a moment I never want to forget.

{terrarium party} what to wear

I’m pretty enthused about the terrarium party. I am also enthused about the outfit that Kate from Undeniable Style put together for me this go round. Love the graphic tee that gives a nod to one of my favorite/classic rap tunes. Love the layers. Love the messy cuff on the jeans. And I love that my party co-host, Ari, came along for the ride on this one. She too was styled by Kate and I can’t really get over the metallic dinosaurs and leather baseball cap.

What to wear - lingering daydreams I deeply enjoy this collaboration with Undeniable Style. With each outfit I find out a little something about myself and my personal style. With this look I realized it is all in the little things: the messy rolled cuff, the plaid button down tied around the waist. I have worn a graphic tee and jeans before, but never felt so cute and put together as this time. The other favorite aspect of this collaboration has been the fun. Our photo shoots are filled with laughter and conversation. You should have seen me trying to keep a straight face for the serious shots. So. hard.

What to wear - lingering daydreams The pieces Kate found are perfect. The button down is a must for a nursing mom. The graphic tee makes me smile every time I see it. The jeans are comfy cozy. And converse, you can’t go wrong.

A couple of the details I can take credit for. My teak Sire frames were acquired in December. They are handcrafted in Los Angeles by two guys that have made wood frames that are incredibly durable. Mine have been snatched off my face by my little man multiple times without being harmed. I fell in love with these frames at Renegade SF during the summer and then finally committed in the winter. Good decision. Now I’m fiending for a pair of their sunglasses.

The earrings are also mine. Love anything with mixed metal that is at all industrial or urban.

What to wear - lingering daydreams Ari’s dino sweatshirt is amazing. It also happens that we have some golden dinos for the terrariums, which makes this piece oh-so-appropriate. This is a good example of why I am jealous of curly hair. I know, I know, it can be difficult to style and almost impossible to control, but I can’t help myself. Just look at how amazing it looks under a leather baseball cap.

What to wear - lingering daydreams It was a crazy good time to have two of my favorite people meet and hangout. Couldn’t have asked for a better Saturday morning.

365 Grateful

While lost in the rabbit hole of pinterest I stumbled across this video on Hailey’s 365 Grateful Project. Her story about how gratitude changed her life inspired me to do a similar project. I am in an incredible and crazy place in my life. The breathtaking experience of being a mom is filled with the highest of highs. It also is intense and consuming. It can fill you with doubt or put strain on your relationships.

I want to love up every minute of this time in my life. My goal for this project is to notice the little things, especially those that might slip by if it wasn’t for a watchful eye and quick click of a camera.
